| Tell me if this is too complicated, requires too much work, or is just plain nonsensical. How about an all-encompassing calendar of author events at member stores? The author's name would appear on the date of their appearance. Their name would also be a link to the appropriate store's website calendar, like the link in the News & Events section of this website. I don't spend the time to trawl through every store's website to see who's making an appearance. With a central calendar, I would see only author names and then click on the ones that I want more info on. We could hype the calendar to the arts editors of various NorCal publications, radio, and TV, thereby possibly gaining more coverage of our events. The publishers would love the extra hype (and the fact that arts editors were looking at the calendar on a regular basis). We could say to the pubs, "Hey, look what we did for you! Pretty cool, eh?" |

Of course, it would require someone to compile all the info. Ideally the stores with author events would send it in, and not require the compiler to get the details from all their websites.
However, given how hard it is to get folks to participate in this forum, I'm not optimistic...
This need not be all-encompassing to be worth trying, though. Certainly stores could send me notices of upcoming events and I could post them as news items on the home page. |
