Dear Friends and Colleagues,
In order to facilitate planning for 2020 and our shared future as one trade association the Boards of both the NCIBA and the SCIBA recommend the following:
1. The staff of the NCIBA, Calvin Crosby and Ann Seaton, should immediately take charge of current business that affects the entire state. This includes filling board and committee positions; planning programming to serve the full membership in 2020 and beyond; and any other actions they deem necessary for the health and success of the organization and its members both current and prospective.
2. The Executive Director of SCIBA, Andrea Vuleta, is responsible for wrapping up the past business of that organization. This is to be done in an efficient and timely fashion insomuch as possible no later than December 31, 2019.
Both boards support Calvin and Ann’s efforts to move forward with business in a good faith effort to address the immediate needs of the California booksellers while also focusing on the adjustments happening in the creation of one California bookseller alliance.
Both boards would also like remind the membership that are open positions both on the board and in each of one California’s committees and task forces. No matter where your passion and skills lie – Education, Technology, Book Awards, and more – there is a committee or task force that could use your help.
Both boards would like to encourage members of the SCIBA to join the new one California association. For now, every member in good standing is a member in the new organization, but we would like to encourage you to join one California formally by paying a pro-rated registration fee of $50. (more details here) that will be extended until April 1, 2020.
Both boards strongly encourage member stores and frontline booksellers alike to sign up for the one California organization’s newsletter: (n)CIBA News and Information (the name will change once one has been decided on for the new organization). This e-mail newsletter keeps booksellers up-to-date on industry developments, upcoming events, and new/future release titles and programs that the publishers are excited to share. Contact Calvin directly to sign up for this valuable resource.
Finally, both Boards would like to thank the members of the Transition Committee and Andrea Vuleta, Calvin Crosby, and Ann Seaton for their hard work, imagination, and diligence in helping us reach this exciting juncture. The coming months will see many changes – including a new association name and new programs around the state – but we are confident that with the passionate input and hard work of so many committed booksellers and allies that we will move forward stronger than ever.
